Bring your own keys.

TomeHoard can look up books without either key. Adding your own optional credentials gives Google Books its own quota and lets you use Hardcover as an additional source.

Google Books

A Google Books key is optional. The app works without one, but your own key helps avoid the shared rate limits used by unauthenticated requests.

    Open Google Cloud

    Go to the Google Cloud Credentials page and sign in.

  2. 02

    Choose a project

    Select an existing project or create a new one. In APIs & Services → Library, enable the Books API.

  3. 03

    Create the key

    Return to APIs & Services → Credentials, choose Create credentials → API key, and copy the key that Google gives you.

  4. 04

    Restrict it

    Use Restrict key and limit it to the Books API when Google offers that option. Then paste the key into TomeHoard under Settings → Metadata providers.

02 / Optional provider

Hardcover

Hardcover access is optional. It can add another metadata source when you have a Hardcover account and want to use its catalogue.

    Open your API page

    Sign in to Hardcover, then open your account API page.

  2. 02

    Create or copy a token

    Use the API page to create a token or copy an existing one. Keep it private—this token grants access to your Hardcover API.

  3. 03

    Paste only the token

    In TomeHoard, open Settings → Metadata providers, enable Use Hardcover, and paste the token into the Hardcover API key field. Do not add the word Bearer—the app adds that automatically.

Keep your keys private

TomeHoard stores these credentials securely on your device. Do not share them in screenshots, issue reports, or public repositories. You can remove either key at any time by clearing the field and saving it again.
